Pilates outfit ideas that stay put on the reformer

Pilates is my favorite hour of the week. It is also the class where a bad outfit shows up fastest. You spend half the time lying down, rolling up and lifting your legs, so anything loose or slippery gets in the way.

Choose fitted over loose

Loose tees slide up to your chin the second you roll back on the reformer. I wear fitted pieces that move with me. My most worn set is the Seamless Cross Back Set. It is seamless, so nothing digs in when I lie on my back, and the cross back straps stay where they should.

A long sleeve crop for cooler studios

Some studios keep the air conditioning on high. On those days I wear the Cutout Tie-Back Long Sleeve Crop Top with black high-waisted leggings. Long sleeves keep me warm, the side cutout and back tie make it feel less plain, and I can go straight from class to coffee without changing.

Small extras that make class better

  • Wrist weights for the arm series. I use the Bala Bangles Ankle & Wrist Weights and they double as light weights on walks.
  • Hair off my neck. A claw clip is faster than a ponytail and does not press into the headrest. I keep a few from the 12-Pack Claw Clips in my bag.
  • Grip socks, because most studios ask for them.

What I skip

  • Anything with a big back zip or hard details that press into the mat.
  • Shorts that are too short for leg circles and straps.
  • Heavy cotton, which gets damp and stays damp.

If you are new to reformer classes, wear something fitted you already own for the first one. You will know after one session what bugs you, and then you can upgrade from there.
